“Jeggings” – a.k.a. jean leggings

Why yes, that IS the same thing as “denim leggings”, now you mention it.

Seriously, why do denim leggings need to be referred to as “jeggings”? And while we’re on the subject, why are “jeggings” (shudder) singled out for special attention? Where will it all end?

A little about these "jeggings".......Frankie B. jeans are infamous for their super low 3" zipper rise, but you get so much more with these jeans: style, quality and originality. They're a little hippy chic, a little rock 'n roll, and very sexy. You can get your Frankie B. BFF "Jeggings" at niche, or www.shopnicheboutique.com. Who’s with us?

Look who's joining the niche family....De Lacy

Bridgette De Lacy grew up loving fashion and “Dressing Up”. She developed her sense of creativity and love for design at an early age. She continued to refine her personal style while attending design school at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising against the crisp cultural backdrop of San Francisco.

After Graduation, Bridgette relocated to Los Angeles to take the fashion world head on. She started by managing and buying for some of California's top boutiques.

Currently, she is the executive director of Michelle Roy Designs. (Micheleel Roy is available at www.shopnicheboutique.com) Ms. Roy is known for her silk flowers, her wearable accessories and celebrity clientele. Designing with Michelle has been part of Bridgette’s inspiration for her new collection using her own knowledge of accessories and her understanding of how to dictate the use of fabrics to create their best forms.

De Lacy has emerged with a ready to wear collection… A line of dresses that is whimsical and wearable. De Lacy knows that all women are unique so each piece in the limited edition signature series is numbered indicating what cut the client is wearing. The spring 2010 collection has something for every mood. De Lacy has the ability to cross over from the work day to an evening of possibilities. The intricate braided ties with chain, sequin accents and silk chiffon underlay gives cotton fabric a new twist. In using classic shapes in modern fabrics with fresh details Bridgette is living her design philosophy that “Nothing should have an expiration date”.

You go girrrrrllllllll! (That was a bit cheesy but totally necessary!)

What Goes Around Comes Around.....Again and Again and Again....

No, I am not talking about karma.......

I am talking about fashion. You know, trends.....The things we wear and then die laughing when we see photos of ourselves years later? Just like acid wash jeans. Yes, they are back. And although hopefully not here to stay, there are HERE. I have to say, the second time around could be just as embarrassing as the first. And for some of us, even worse. None the less, I will proudly take part in this trend. And I hope you do too. Even if you have been there and done that. Because after all, what is fashion with out a little bit of risk? Oh, I think they call it the gap......

Store Front: The Disappearing Face of New York

So I am starting a book club. But not a regular book club. A picture book club. Like any book that has more pictures than words qualifies. Think of it as a coffee table book club.......Here is my first attempt to shed light on the world of coffee table books.

Now, since this is just a picture book club, I just look at the pictures. So here are some reviews from people whom are much more important than I.

From The New Yorker:
New York’s storefronts constitute the city’s vernacular architecture, shaping the look and feel of the five boroughs no less than more celebrated elements of the skyline. These unfussy, elegant, and richly colored photographs of butcher shops, bakeries, fabric wholesalers, cuchifritos stands, stationery and sporting-goods stores, laundromats, groceries, and dive bars give connoisseurs of signage, folk typography, and ambient erosion much to pore over. Shops that opened in the nineteen-seventies now look as ancient as those dating back to the twenties. The tone is elegiac as much as it is celebratory; interviews with shop owners make it clear how close to extinction many of them stand, and the photographers report that nearly a third of these businesses have gone under in the time that it took to make the book.

Store Front: The Disappearing Face of New York...Available at Amazon. Take a look for yourself. You won't be sorry.

The Original Gangster.....Nudie, The Rodeo Tailor

Nudie.....the first man to put rhinestones on clothing. A genius in my mind. They call him the rhinestone cowyboy. My kind of man. It all began in the 1930's. Born in Russia but a cowboy at heart. Nudie decided to be a tailor. And a darn good one at that. Here is how the story goes....he started by making g-strings for exotic dancers in New York. Before long he was making clothes for Elvis and Roy Rodgers. He worn rhinestone suits and unmatched boots. He was the grand master flash of the 40's. And hence Glitz was born! So every time you see a rhinestone or embellishment, remember, it's a part of history. So look to the sky and thank Nudie, the rhinestone rodeo tailor.

Try me on; I look even better on your gorgeous bod.

From the Mouth of designer Betsy of Betsy and Iya.......

WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF BETSY & IYA:

Where size matters – poetry counts – color rules – and Tim Burton makes the clasps.

Just kidding about the Tim Burton part.

Betsy & Iya is LARGE. Sometimes in feeling, sometimes in actuality. It’s about scale: let’s bring it up, not down. Big pieces, mixed metals, confident entrances. Clunky or intricate. Earthy or Army. But always, always, 100% handmade.

(Except for obvious pieces, like the ones made before I was even born; hence the term: vintage. Or the ones that came from the earth. Even with the dog tags, I cast them myself here in Portland…only the best.)

Thanks so much for stoppin’ in!

-Betsy

Oh. And don't worry. You don't have to go to Paris or Milan or even NYC to get your sexy back. You can get it right here in America's heartland. At niche, of course. If you haven't already, check out our website at www.shopnicheboutique.com or become our facebook fan. You choose. See you at niche!

Forgive Me, Football Fans, For I Have Sinned.....

Football fashion gone wrong! Ok. Here's the thing. If you are going to be a super fan, you need to focus. Pull yourself together and really make a statement. Let's just call these looks below "fashion fumbles".

Photobucket

To be a mega fan you must be, well, better. Your outfit really has to be planned, thought out. Like for an entire off season. Now I am no expert on football, but I know a super fan when I see one.

Photobucket
And this guy, my friends, is what's up. Talk about skills......accessory skills! I love him. LOVE. A bar has been set. We all have high standards to live up to this Superbowl Sunday. Don't let Indy down......I know I won't. wink wink.

Who I'm Loving Right Now......

Photobucket

Just A little bit About Designer Lauren Moshi......... One of my personal faves.

Inspired by high fashion and fine art, Lauren Moshi creates unique pieces that are meticulously crafted in limited quantities. Limited quantities.....I like that. Every mark, every line on every piece is hand drawn by Lauren. No computer graphics, no photoshop, just a pen and paper.

Pretty amazing.

So of course, Lauren Moshi has a long list of devoted celeb followers. But who can blame them?

Photobucket

So lets recap. One of a kind hand drawn designs. Limited edition quantities. Oh did I mention all Lauren Moshi garments are made in the USA? Not much of that going around these days.....

You know what they say....If you can't beat em, join em.

Forget Blue Friday....Blue Grammys Is Where It's At!

Ok. Is it just me or do you think these celebs are trying to send a VERY important message??? Colts blue on the Grammy red carpet......Hello!
